About us

Barton Place Farm has been owned and run by the Belworthy Family since the 1950’s. Paul’s Grandad Fred bought the farm when Paul’s Dad, Rodney, was just 13.  Fred thought it would be a good farm to run for a few years and then sell the land for housing.  Thankfully this has not happened and it’s now up to the 3rd generation to ensure it is available for the 4th generation to take over, should they wish to in the future.

Back in 2009 when we took over the farm, we were offered 150 chickens who were 18 months old and therefore not considered commercial anymore. We took these on and started selling eggs from the farm gate.  From there we progressed to also offering potatoes and then our own meat.  We set up our boot room as a small shop and have steadily increased our range of products, as we find local suppliers and companies to work with.  We are now at capacity and have to devise cunning ways of adding more shelves or arranging stock.

In 2013 we removed the garages at the front of the farm, to create a dedicated parking area, which has been a great success, and have now applied for planning permission to turn the barn behind these spaces into a dedicated shop.  We will keep you posted on progress..

November 2013: We are pleased to say that Planning Permission was granted without any objections or conditions which is excellent news. Our wonderful Architect, Hilary, is now working with the Building Regulation team to ensure we stay within their requirements but it is all systems go.   Now the hard work begins!

April 2014:  Work begins on 14 April so please bear with us during the 7 weeks of transformation.  Once the builders have finished, it’s the turn of our wonderful electrician Andy and then it’s up to us to decorate and fit it out.   Choosing colours will be the hardest part.

8th August 2014: The new shop is open.  Thanks to the sterling efforts of Hilary Lawson, Raleigh Property Transformations and Phase Electrical (Andy), we have a wonderful new space in which to sell our products and those of our Westcountry friends.  Please come in and let us know what you think of the changes.
